Summer Students

Our summer students contribute so much to the tavern each year by completing personal projects for the tavern, providing information packed tours to guests, hosting events, and working away on the building restoration.

2018 - Rachel Bedic

"I started working at the Tavern back in 4th year university (2018) while I was going through to be a history teacher. It was one of my many historical tour guide jobs I have held over the years, and by far my favourite! This historic site is filled with all the things I love: 1800's Canadian history, restoration opportunities galore, and expansive arboretum walking trails for easy hiking. There's never a dull moment at the Tavern! Throughout the past 7 years, I have: conducted research, restored rooms, ran a variety of crafting workshops, hosted events (including ghost investigation groups!), oversaw our artifact donation process, and met some amazing people through my tours. Fryfogel's Tavern & Inn is a truly unique historical experience and one I cannot wait to share with people."

2021 - Emily Coyne

"Hi! My name is Emily Coyne. I have an Honours Specialization in Family Studies and a Major in Sociology from Western University. I am also a recent graduate of Western University's Bachelor of Education program, primary/junior division. My hobbies include baking, travelling, crafting, and spending time with my family and friends. I have been an employee here at Fryfogel's Tavern since 2021, completing my fifth summer here in 2025. What I love the most about this job is how no two days are the same. I also love giving tours, meeting new people, completing restoration work, and helping in the planning and hosting of events like our annual summer day camp, cyanotype workshop, and ghost tours! My main contribution to the Tavern has been restoring/recreating the faux marble blocks in the main hallway and tavern room, as well as the faux wood panelling in the parlour. If you are in the area, I definitely recommend that you stop by to visit this hidden gem!"

2025 - Hilary Doupe

Prior to beginning working at Fryfogel Tavern, Hilary completed her Bachelor of Arts in English Literature at Trent University and is continuing her education to earn her Master’s in Library and Information Science at Western University in the Fall. She loves reading and listening to musicals in her free time. Over the the summer of 2025, Hilary put her efforts towards restoring the website for the Fryfogel Tavern to help educate others on the history of the site and provide a more concise source of information for future students and board members.

2025 - Nathan Patterson

During the school year, Nathan attends McMaster university and is currently enrolled in their undergraduate Honours Social Psychology program. At the tavern, Nathan spent his summer working on two historical costumes for past summer students and board members Emily Coyne and Rachel Bedic. These costumes each consist of a pair of drawers, a shift, a corset, petticoat, and an outer dress. The sewing was done either by hand or on the 1901 treadle sewing machine. In his spare time he enjoys most textile works and other textile projects.
