The Dining Room
The Tavern & Dining Room was restored in 2023, find more information about the restoration process here.
This section of the building is located on the main floor and was originally two separate rooms. When Amos Fryfogel, Sebastian Fryfogel’s great-grandson, rented out the building to the Rankin sisters, the separating wall was torn down to conjoin them into one room to create a larger dining space for their guests in the Green Acres Tea Room.

The dining room is pretty simple in its construction. It has a small closet next to where the original wall had stood that would have been used to store extra tablecloths, dishes, and cutlery. The only other odd aspect of this room is the implementation of a mediocre dumbwaiter. Instead of being hoisted by a pulley system, it was simply a hole near the floor that connected to the steps that led down to the basement kitchen. Cooks in the kitchen would place the dishes on the floor of the dining room where a server (or even a guest) would pick up the dish off the floor and bring it to the table. This saved the cooks not only from going all the way up the stairs with each dish, but also from the inappropriate pestering that male guests would often give to the female workers.
The Tavern
The tavern side of the room holds the only piece of furniture we still have from the Fryfogel family; the barback shelves and cupboards. Additionally, there is evidence of the placement of the bar top from a notch left behind in the window sill closest to the bar back. This is where Sebastian Fryfogel would have served alcohol to his guests and other members of the community. It’s important to note that no women were allowed in the tavern, instead they would wait in the Parlour Room and attend to their children while the men drank away.

The walls in the tavern were painted in an imitation marbling since transporting marble along the corduroy road was too risky for such an expensive product. The marbling you see here today is not original but is instead a recreation of the original walls done by our local artist, Emily Coyne.

Due to it’s more spacious nature, most of our events are held within this room. You can see all of our past events here and check our Facebook and Instagram pages for upcoming events.
