Main Bedroom

This main bedroom, or master bedroom, was often rented out to a large family with a plethora of children. Despite being covered in a variety of wallpaper for years, you can still see the original green paint that would have complimented the mural.

In the 1930’s, when the building was converted into the Rankin sister’s tea room, a doorway was placed on the south wall to provide easier access for servers between their tables. This has since been filled in to restore the original structure of the room.

Niagara Falls Mural

The most alluring piece within our building is this mural of Niagara Falls. It was painted directly onto the plaster while it was still wet by using diluted oil paint. Most guests at the tavern in the mid-1800s would never have seen Niagara Falls, making it a huge spectacle. You can still see some figures on the bottom right corner looking up to the falls in awe. While the artist is unknown, it is believed that the same artist completed the other mural in the Ballroom as well as the marbling on the walls and the imitation wainscoting in other rooms.
